Having a small yard means becoming very familiar with the word "DWARF" when it comes to plants - shrubs in particular... While watching an episode of This Old House Sue came across a reference to a dwarf gardenia... the episode had a house with a similarly small yard and mentioned that lot of folks plant lilacs near a door so that when guests come in they come past a wonderful fragrance... and that this can also be achieved by planting a much smaller plant such as the Dwarf Gardenia if one does not have the space that the lilac would require.... here's some more info for you!
