Holy Saturday?

Holy Saturday is defined as:

* A commemoration of the day that Jesus lay in his tomb.
* In the Roman Catholic Church, daytime Masses are never offered.
* There are no colors seen or used throughout the chapel or on vestments.
* Known as Black Saturday in the Philippines.

You will notice no color... Black Saturday.... all in preparation....
Certainly those who are having Easter are in preparation today... cooking and putting the finishing touches on for tomorrow... do they stop to reflect?
Last year, as I have every year that I've not travelled for Easter... I took the food to be blessed. A tradition that my family has done for years, but only a few times have I gone to my parish to do it... many times I'd met or picked up Mom or Dad at Ascension... I do enjoy the blessing of the food. It is a time to reflect and a wonderful tradition! Last year, at St. Wendelin I noticed many of the cloths in the baskets were embroidered, some in Slovak... some had simple pictures, all were white.
Having never payed attention to this detail before... I had my blue & white check table cloth wrapped around the food...(the table cloth has significance to me, it was used at my bridal shower and I was glad to have it blessed)... I asked one of my parents friends about her cloth... it was pretty... here it was a gift to her from her mother in law... it was from Slovakia... I was determined to find out more... if there was such a thing in my family... nope, this is where being younger than the others does not pay off... no grand parents left to ask... HOWEVER a bit later this friend of my parents, gave me her cloth... it seems no one in her family has an interest in such things and she wanted to pass it along to someone who did... I have known this person all my life and was touched and saddened at the same time... One this the last time (it appears) my basket will be blessed at St. Wendelin, I will be reflecting on a lot.... I encourage you to do the same, keep the traditions alive won't you?!
