Growler at the Hooley!

Recently we have attended a neighborhood festival "the Hooley" and on our anniversary went to dinner at the Rock Bottom Brewery... The Hooley was to celebrate the renewal so to speak of Kaams corner. There was a special beer created to celebrate called the Kaams Corner Lager... this is only available at certain pubs on tap or you could get a "growler" to go... The guys were unable to make it to the Hooley... so I carried a growler thru the streets of Cleve about a mile home... Then on our anniversary... the day before St. W. closed... having dinner at the brewery (which was below Windows on the River)... we found out that they were to close in 2 weeks... They had a variety of special Cleve beers on tap... though they were out of the "Terminal"... they did have "Dawg Pound Brown"... and another growler came home with us... I understand they were both good... this did bring about a question... WHAT is a GROWLER... here's the answer that I found!

Growler -wikipedia
A growler is a U.S. half gallon (1,890 ml/66.5 imp fl oz) glass jug used to transport draft beer in the United States. They are commonly sold at breweries and brewpubs as a means to sell take-out beer. Some breweries also offer a one-litre or one-quart version. Growlers are also used by homebrewers as an alternative to kegs or smaller bottles for carbonating and storing their beer.

Growlers are generally made of glass and have either a screw-on cap or a hinged porcelain gasket cap which can provide freshness for a week or more. A properly sealed growler will hold carbonation indefinitely and will store beer like any other sanitized bottle.

The term likely dates back to the late 19th century when fresh beer was carried from the local pub to one's home by means of a small-galvanized pail. It is claimed the sound that the CO2 made when it escaped from the lid as the beer sloshed around sounded like a growl.[3]
